ABOUT

Site-specific installation and VR work ‘Millennial (Phos-Chek) Pink’ incorporates Phos-Chek, a fire retardant and fertilizer that is used to combat wildfires and is hot pink in color. Wildfires have recently ignited on a historical level in Siberia, Brazil and the Congo, while last year was the most destructive year for wildfires in the history of California. Wildfire season is now one month longer universally than it was in the 1980s and represents both climate change and social inequality on a global scale. This installation is meant to convey the cautionary tale that a "millennial pink" future is not just an interior design trend found on Instagram, but a potential necessity if wildfires continue to grow worldwide due to human carelessness, apathy and greed. By viewing the VR, participants in the installation become an integral part of the work, creating a diorama of humanity's complicity in our natural habitat's destruction, especially in our present-day, digital age of virtual escapism.
