BIOGRAPHY
Emilie works with text, video, found objects and digital processes to make art that critiques patriarchal systems through an eco-feminist lens. Her artwork has been exhibited in Berlin, Miami, Aspen and Denver and has received press from outlets including Germany's Tagesspiegel newspaper, Time Out Berlin and The Aspen Times.
As a writer and translator (DE>EN), Emilie has published over 60 articles and reviews. An essay she wrote on the work of artist/musician Ted Riederer was sealed in a time capsule in the walls of the new Rudin Family gallery at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in July 2019, to be opened in 100 years. Her writing has appeared online for The New York Times, The Paris Review, on artnet.com, artforum.com and in numerous magazines such as Damn Mag (Brussels), Sleek Mag (Berlin) and SOMA (San Francisco). As a curator, Emilie specializes in large-scale installations in alternative venues. In 2014, Emilie co-curated "On Love and Other Teachers," a show of young Kazakh artists, in a parking garage underneath the center square of Almaty, Kazakhstan as part of ARTBAT Fest. In 2016, Emilie co-curated the conference "New Media," in collaboration with The Art Newspaper for the ViennaContemporary art fair. Her exhibitions have been featured in Modern Painters, Harpers Bazaar Art Arabia, The National (Dubai), on artnet.com, artforum.com and Dazed Digital (UK), among others.
Emilie began her career at Gagosian Gallery in New York City before moving abroad to Berlin, Germany in 2006, where she spent the next five years working as a curator and writer/translator. During this time, she developed the art project "Unfinished Business," which was exhibited in a solo show at SRS (Senatsreservenspeicher), the former reserve for government documents of the DDR (East Germany).
Upon returning to the United States, Emilie moved to Aspen, Colorado where she worked as a gallery director and curated an annual pop-up exhibition of original works by Andy Warhol at 212Gallery, in collaboration with Christie's and The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. From 2015 - 2018 Emilie was a senior curator at Twyla, a start-up for limited edition art prints backed by Google Ventures.
Emilie is currently pursuing a MA in Emergent Digital Practices from the University of Denver. She holds a BA in Art and German from Middlebury College in Vermont.
