Bio

Eva Davidova is a Spanish/Bulgarian multidisciplinary artist based in New York. The issues of her work—behavior, cruelty, ecological disaster and manipulation of information emerge as paradoxes rather than assumptions, in an almost fairy-tale fashion.

Her practice involves drawing, performance, interactive installations and participatory VR, computer generated 3D sculpture and photo-based animation. Davidova’s work has been shown at the Bronx Museum, the Everson Museum, Albright Knox Museum, MACBA, CAAC Sevilla; Instituto Cervantes, and Circulo de Bellas Artes among others. She is recipient of the BANCAJA International Award for Digital Art; the M-tel Award for Contemporary Bulgarian Art, and a Residency Unlimited NEA fellowship for US based artists.

Title: Birds Birth
Year: 2017
Medium: 3D animation loop (color, sound)
Size: 1080 x 1920p (vertical screen); 01:07 minutes
About:
Sound by Hans Tammen. ‘Birds Birth’ transfers the horrors of ecological disaster directly to the artist's body, literally giving birth to birds, or to our descendants, with death in their bellies. In contrast to the certainty and unambiguous definition of the 3d birds, the photographed body endlessly glitches in an invented time and an interpolated, non-sequential motion. If there is no continuity of time, but only infinitude of separate instants, what happens in the gaps between? Do bodies completely disintegrate and get reconfigured anew? Could we use these gaps to reconfigure something different?
