BIOGRAPHY
Nikita Shokhov is a visual artist working in XR, video and photography. His practice is informed by the opposition of mind and body, relations of carnival culture and social-political context, reality and myth, religions, and impacts of new technology. Mixing documentary and staging approaches, he explores various ways to create immersive experience whether through site-specific installations or VR combining sound, visuals, and movement in space. World Press Photo awardee, Nova Art Contest finalist.

His works were exhibited internationally, including Spring/Break Art Show (USA), Anhydrite Biennale (Germany), Moscow Museum of Modern Art (Russia), Watermill Center (USA), GRAD Gallery (UK), 5th Photoquai Biennial (France), Manifesta 10, 6th Moscow Biennial of Contemporary Art (Russia). Film screenings/performances include Redcat Theatre (USA), CalArts Digital Expo (USA), CYFEST (Russia), ArtDocFest (Russia). Publications and features of works were in The New York Times, The Guardian, Le Monde, Interview, Harper’s Bazaar Art, L'Officiel, ELLE, TV Rain, L’Express, Courrier International, IL, China Newsweek, L’Insense Photo, Calvert Journal, Afisha magazine, Snob, Time Out, Kommersant, Colta.ru, and YET magazine.

Shokhov is trained at Virginia Tech, California Institute of the Arts, and Rodchenko Art School Moscow.
